How to fold an origami fox
Crease and cut a triangle into a slim body with four legs and a big bushy tail. Fold in a white bib and a white tail tip, then fold a pointy head with one tall ear.
You need: 1 orange square (15 cm), a small orange square (5.5 cm), scissors, a ruler, glue and a black pen. Hard, 18 steps, about 30 minutes.
Steps
- Body: fold in half. White side up, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. The long fold at the top is the fox's back; it faces right.
- Body: crease the front legs. Fold the right point over on an upright crease 2.4 cm right of the middle, and crease it hard.
- Body: open it. Unfold it. This crease marks the back of the front legs.
- Body: crease the hind legs. Fold the left point over on an upright crease 1.8 cm left of the middle.
- Body: open it. Unfold it. This crease marks the front of the hind legs.
- Body: crease the rump. Fold the left point over again on an upright crease 3.8 cm left of the middle.
- Body: open it. Unfold it. Everything left of this crease will be the bushy tail.
- Body: cut the legs. Cut the bottom point off level, 5.8 cm below the top fold. Cut up both leg creases to 2.9 cm below the top, and straight across between them.
- Body: free the tail. Cut up the rump crease to 2 cm from the top, then round down to the left edge 7 cm from the middle. Taper the hind legs and cut the chest on a slant.
- Body: droop the tail. Cut the top of the tail off on a slant, from the top of the rump to 1.4 cm down at the left point, so it droops. Snip 2 cm along the top from the chest.
- White bib. Fold the chest edge of each layer inside, on a crease from 4.4 cm down the front leg to 2 cm in at the top, so a white bib shows.
- White tail tip. Fold the tail's point back about 2 cm from the end, the front layer to the front and the back layer behind, so the tip turns white.
- Head: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the small orange square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Head: fold in half. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner. The fold at the bottom is the jaw; the left point will be the nose.
- Head: the ear. Fold the right corner up on a crease from the middle of the jaw fold, so its tip stands straight up past the right edge.
- Head: turn over. Turn the head over. Now the nose points right and the ear is at the back.
- Head: forehead. Cut the top point off level, 1.9 cm above the jaw fold, without cutting the ear behind it. Now the ear stands up tall.
- Glue it together. Glue the back of the head over the top of the chest, with the nose pointing forward.
Sly fox!
Colour the paws black for socks, then draw a white cheek, a black ear tip, a sly eye, a black nose and a smile.
