How to fold an origami lemur

Fold a grey body whose sides become arms round a white belly, a masked face from a diamond, two pointed ears, black feet, and a long tail bent three times into a high curl.

You need: Grey squares (15, 8 and 2 × 5 cm), a black strip (4 × 34 cm), a black strip (13 × 4 cm), scissors, glue. Hard, 19 steps, about 40 minutes.

Steps

  1. Body: arms and belly. Take the big grey square, white side up. Fold the sides in on slanted creases, 4 cm in at the top and 2 cm at the bottom, as grey arms round a white belly.
  2. Body: round it. Fold the top corners behind 2 cm and the bottom corners 3.5 cm, so the lemur has round shoulders and a plump bottom.
  3. Tail: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the long black strip, white side up, standing tall.
  4. Tail: in half. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, so it is black on both sides.
  5. Tail: first bend. 19.5 cm up from the bottom, fold the top part over on a slanted crease, so it leans to the right.
  6. Tail: second bend. 6.5 cm further along, fold the end over again so it turns to point right.
  7. Tail: curl the tip. 4 cm further, fold the tip down once more, so the end of the tail curls over and hangs down.
  8. Tail: round the tip. Snip both corners off the tip of the tail, so it is round.
  9. Ear: new sheet. Set the tail aside. Take a small grey square, white side up.
  10. Ear: a triangle. Fold it in half from corner to corner, so it is a grey triangle.
  11. Ear: and another. Set it aside and take the other small grey square.
  12. Ear: a triangle. Fold it in half from corner to corner, so it is a grey triangle.
  13. Head: new sheet. Set the ear aside. Take the 8 cm grey square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  14. Head: grey crown. Fold the top corner down to the middle. This grey triangle is the top of the lemur's head.
  15. Head: slim the face. Fold the left and right corners behind, 2 cm in, so the face is narrow with a pointed white muzzle.
  16. Feet: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the short black strip, white side up, lying wide.
  17. Feet: in half. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge.
  18. Feet: round them. Snip all four corners off the ends, 1 cm in, so each foot is round.
  19. Glue it together. Glue the feet behind the body and the tail behind its right side, curling up high. Glue the ears behind the head's top corners and the head on top.

Tail up high!

Draw black eye patches with bright eyes and a black nose tip. Paint white rings round the tail and give the arms black hands.
