How to fold an origami deep-sea squid
Narrow a kite into a long point under a wide arrowhead of fins, snip up the point's folds and fan its hidden layers out into four arms.
You need: 1 square sheet (15 cm), pink on one side and white on the other, scissors and a black pen. Hard, 8 steps, about 25 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. White side up, fold the left corner onto the right corner.
- Open it again. Unfold it, leaving a sharp crease down the middle.
- Make a kite. Fold the two bottom edges in to the middle crease, so the bottom point is long.
- Narrow it. Fold the new bottom edges in to the middle again, from the bottom tip, so the bottom point gets long and slim.
- Turn it over. Turn the paper over. The wide top is the fins, the long point the body and arms.
- Snip three slits. Snip from the bottom tip up the middle crease 8.5 cm, then up both folded edges just as far.
- Fan the back arms. Fold the back flap on each side out behind from the end of its slit, so it hangs down and out.
- Fan the front arms. Fold each front strip out a little on a slant from the top of the middle slit.
