How to fold an origami swan boat
Fold one long pink sheet into a strip and pleat a rim along it. Reverse-fold the front up into a tall neck, bend the head forward and point its beak, and raise the tail.
You need: Pink paper 45 × 10 cm and a black pen. Hard, 8 steps, about 30 minutes.
Steps
- Edges to the middle. Start white side up. Fold the top and bottom edges in to meet along the middle.
- Fold in half. Mountain-fold it in half along the middle, so the top half goes behind. Now it is a long strip, pink on both sides.
- Pleat: fold up. Fold the bottom edge up a little way on the front, and the same on the back.
- Pleat: fold down. Fold the edges back down, half as far, on both sides. The pleat makes a rim along the boat.
- Neck. Outside-reverse-fold the long right end up on a steep slant from the bottom edge. It stands up tall as the swan's neck.
- Head. Near the top, fold the end of the neck forward on a long slant, through all the layers, so the head points out over the water.
- Beak. Fold the bottom corner at the end of the head up on a slant, through all its layers, so the head ends in a pointed beak.
- Tail. Outside-reverse-fold the left end up and back on a slant from the bottom edge, for the tail.
Pedal away!
Draw a black eye on the head. Pedal it round the park lake!
