How to fold an origami turkey
Fold half a square into a narrow fan and snip a point on its end: it opens into eight tail feathers. Add a round brown body and a little red head in front.
You need: Half a 15 cm orange square for the tail, a 5 cm brown square, a 3 cm red square, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 12 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Tail: fold in half. Start with the tail, orange side up, long edge at the bottom. Fold the right edge over onto the left edge.
- Tail: edge to the bottom. Fold the folded right edge down onto the bottom edge, creasing from the bottom-right corner.
- Tail: and again. Fold the new slanted edge down onto the bottom edge again, from the same corner. Crease all the layers hard.
- Tail: snip a point. Cut through all the layers in two straight snips that meet in a point: from 4.5 cm along each edge, measured from the corner, to 7.5 cm out in the middle.
- Tail: open it out. Unfold the last fold.
- Tail: open again. Unfold the next fold.
- Tail: open flat. Open the tail out flat: a fan of eight pointed feathers.
- Head: new sheet. Set the tail aside. Take the little red square, red side up, turned like a diamond.
- Head: fold three corners. Fold the left, right and top corners a little way behind. The bottom point hangs down as the wattle.
- Body: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the brown square, brown side up, turned like a diamond.
- Body: fold four corners. Fold all four corners a little way behind, the bottom one least, to make a plump round body.
- Glue it together. Glue the tail behind the body, the corner where the feathers meet hidden low behind it. Glue the head on top of the body.
Gobble gobble!
Draw two eyes and a little beak on the head. Stand it on the table for a Thanksgiving welcome.
