How to fold an origami angel

A kite folds into a long blue robe, and a white square folded in half and cut opens into a pair of wings. Add a round head and a gold halo, then a sleepy smile.

You need: A 15 cm pale blue square, a 15 cm white square, a 4.5 cm peach square, a 7 cm gold square, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 13 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Robe: crease the diagonal. Start with the blue square, white side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
  2. Robe: make a kite. Fold the two upper edges in to lie along the centre crease.
  3. Robe: turn it over. Flip it over, so the smooth blue side faces you.
  4. Robe: fold the hem. Fold the bottom point behind, level with the side corners, so the robe is a tall triangle with a straight hem.
  5. Wings: new sheet. Set the robe aside. Take the white square.
  6. Wings: fold in half. Fold the left edge over onto the right edge.
  7. Wings: cut the wing. Cut through both layers along the dotted lines: a slanted top and bottom rising to the open edge, then two snips to round the tip.
  8. Wings: open them. Unfold it: a pair of wings rising out to each side.
  9. Head: new sheet. Set the wings aside. Take the little peach square, peach side up.
  10. Head: round it. Fold all four corners a little way behind to make a round head.
  11. Halo: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the gold square, gold side up.
  12. Halo: round it. Fold all four corners behind, about 3 cm along each edge, to make a gold circle.
  13. Glue it together. Glue the robe's top point onto the halo, the wings behind the robe's shoulders, then the head on top, so the halo glows round it.

Hark, an angel!

Draw two sleepy closed eyes and a little smile, and a few feather lines on the wings. Hang it on the tree or top a present with it.
