How to fold an origami backpack
Four simple parts: a rounded blue body, a darker flap, a yellow pocket with a white zip band, and a long strap folded into a handle with two shoulder straps.
You need: A 15 cm blue square, a 12 cm dark blue square, a 7.5 cm yellow square, a 3 × 26 cm navy strip and a glue stick. Medium, 12 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Body: sides behind. Start with the body, blue side up. Fold the left and right edges behind a little.
- Body: round it. Fold the two top corners behind a lot, for a rounded top, and the bottom corners just a little.
- Flap: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the dark blue square, coloured side up.
- Flap: fold in half. Fold the top half behind onto the bottom half.
- Flap: round it. Fold the top corners behind like the body's, and the bottom corners behind too, so the flap has a round end.
- Pocket: new sheet. Set the flap aside. Take the yellow square, yellow side up.
- Pocket: zip band. Fold a thin strip at the top edge down so the white side shows. That is the zip.
- Pocket: round it. Fold the two bottom corners behind.
- Strap: new strip. Set the pocket aside. Take the navy strip, white side up, lying across.
- Strap: fold in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Strap: turn the ends down. Fold each end down on a slant, so the strip turns a corner and hangs straight down on both sides.
- Glue it together. Glue the body over the strap, a little below the top bar. Glue the flap on the top of the body and the pocket near the bottom.
Off to school!
Draw a buckle on the flap and a zip pull on the pocket. Slip a tiny paper book inside.
