How to fold an origami trumpet
Fold a gold cone for the bell, bend a long strip into the tube with a loop, then add a little valve block and a mouthpiece.
You need: A 13 cm gold square, a 3 x 23 cm gold strip, a 3 x 11 cm dark gold strip, a 4 cm dark gold square and a glue stick. Medium, 13 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Bell: a cone. Start with the bell, gold side up, like a diamond. Fold the two slanted edges at the left corner behind so they meet along the middle.
- Bell: the mouth. Fold the right corner behind, straight up and down where the cone is widest. That flat edge is the bell's open end.
- Tube: new strip. Set the bell aside. Take the long strip, white side up, long edges at the top and bottom.
- Tube: edges in. Fold both long edges in to meet in the middle.
- Tube: in half. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge: a thin gold tube.
- Tube: bend down. Fold the right end of the tube straight down on a slanted line, a little way left of the end.
- Tube: bend left. A short way down, fold the end to point left on a slanted line.
- Tube: bend up. Then fold the end up again, so it comes back under the tube: that's the trumpet's loop.
- Valves: new sheet. Set the tube aside. Take the dark gold strip, dark side up, short edges at the top and bottom.
- Valves: in half. Fold the top half behind to make a tall block.
- Mouthpiece: new sheet. Set the valves aside. Take the little dark gold square, dark side up, like a diamond.
- Mouthpiece: a cone. Fold the two slanted edges at the right corner behind to meet along the middle, then fold the left corner behind where it is widest.
- Build the trumpet. Glue the bell's point under the right end of the tube and the mouthpiece's point under its left end. Glue the valves behind the tube.
Toot toot!
Draw two lines down the valve block to split it into three valves, with a white button on top of each. Ready for a fanfare!
