How to fold an origami calf

A black oval body with white patches stands on four short legs. The head faces you, with a white muzzle folded up from its edge and a strip of big ears behind it.

You need: A black square for the body, a small black rectangle for the head, three black strips for the ears and legs, and glue. Medium, 16 steps, about 14 minutes.

Steps

  1. Body: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
  2. Body: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth coloured side faces you.
  3. Body: round it off. Fold the side points behind a little and the top and bottom points a lot, so the body is a wide oval.
  4. Ears: black strip. Set the body aside. Take the short black strip, white side up.
  5. Ears: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, top edge down to the bottom edge, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
  6. Ears: floppy ears. Fold each end down a little on a slant, near the middle, so the big ears stick out sideways and flop.
  7. Head: small rectangle. Set the ears aside. Take the small black rectangle, black side up, standing tall.
  8. Head: white muzzle. Fold the bottom edge up a quarter of the way, so a white band shows for the muzzle.
  9. Head: round the corners. Fold all four corners behind, just a little, so the head is soft and round.
  10. Far legs: black strip. Set the head aside. Take a black strip, white side up.
  11. Far legs: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, top edge down to the bottom edge, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
  12. Far legs: bend the legs down. Fold each end down on a slant, a little way from the middle, so two short legs stand apart.
  13. Near legs: black strip. Set those legs aside. Take the last black strip, white side up.
  14. Near legs: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, top edge down to the bottom edge, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
  15. Near legs: bend the legs down. Fold both ends down on a slant just like the first pair.
  16. Glue it together. Glue the body over the near legs, the ears across its front top corner and the head over the ears. Glue the far legs behind.

Moo!

Draw white patches on the body, a white blaze, eyes and nostrils.
