How to fold an origami mosquito
Fold a small square into a very thin body, bend a pale strip into narrow wings and fold a knee into each end of three long black strips. Cross them under the body for six legs.
You need: 1 small brown square (10 cm), 3 black strips 1.2 cm wide cut down a long side of A4, a pale strip, glue and a pen. Medium, 18 steps, about 14 minutes.
Steps
- Body: kite. Start white side up, like a diamond. Fold the two lower edges in to meet on the middle line.
- Body: thinner. Fold the new lower edges in to the middle line again. Now it's long and very thin.
- Body: turn over. Turn it over, so the smooth side faces you.
- Body: head. Fold the short top point a little behind, to make a small flat head.
- Wings: pale strip. Set the body aside. Take the pale strip, lying across.
- Wings: fold in half. Fold it in half the long way.
- Wings: round the tips. Fold the four corners at the ends a little behind.
- Wings: bend. Fold the left half over on a steep crease through the middle, so the wings make a narrow V.
- Legs A: black strip. Set the wings aside. Take a black strip, white side up, lying across.
- Legs A: fold in half. Fold it in half the long way, so it's black on both sides.
- Legs A: knees. 6 cm from each end, crease a long slant across the strip to bend a knee: turn the right tip down and the left tip up.
- Legs B: black strip. Set it aside and take the next black strip.
- Legs B: fold in half. Fold it in half the long way, so it's black on both sides.
- Legs B: knees. 6 cm from each end, crease a long slant across the strip to bend a knee: turn the right tip up and the left tip down.
- Middle legs: black strip. Set it aside and take the next black strip.
- Middle legs: fold in half. Fold it in half the long way, so it's black on both sides.
- Middle legs: knees. 6 cm from each end, crease a long slant across the strip to bend a knee: turn both tips down.
- Glue it together. Cross strips A and B in an X under the middle strip, add the wings below, then glue the body on top with the legs meeting at its chest.
Bzzz, no biting!
Draw a long thin nose and two feelers on the head, two white eyes, and thin white stripes across the body.
