How to fold an origami cymbals
Cut two thin gold cymbals, fold their domed bells, a pole and two legs, then glue the cymbals one above the other on the stand.
You need: Two 3 x 15 cm and two 3 cm gold pieces, three 2 x 15 cm strips of dark grey paper, scissors, a white pen and glue. Medium, 14 steps, about 18 minutes.
Steps
- Top cymbal. Start with a long gold piece, coloured side up. Snip off all four corners on a long slant, so each end comes to a thin point.
- Bottom cymbal. Set it aside. Take the other long gold piece, coloured side up.
- Bottom cymbal. Snip off its four corners the same way.
- Pole. Set it aside. Take a dark strip for the pole.
- Pole: in half. Fold it in half the long way, folding behind, to make a thin pole.
- Leg. Set the pole aside. Take a dark strip, cut a bit shorter, for a leg.
- Leg: in half. Fold it in half the long way behind, like the pole.
- Second leg. Set it aside. Take the last dark strip, the same length as the first leg.
- Leg: in half. Fold it in half the long way behind too.
- Top bell. Set it aside. Take a small gold piece, coloured side up.
- Top bell: dome. Fold its two top corners behind to make a little dome.
- Bottom bell. Set it aside. Take the other small gold piece, coloured side up.
- Bottom bell: dome. Fold its two bottom corners behind, so this dome points down.
- Glue it together. Glue the legs to the foot of the pole. Glue the cymbals across the pole with a gap, one dome on top and one hanging below.
Tsss-tsss, crash!
Draw a white shine on each cymbal. Tap them with a pencil for a tiny crash.
