How to fold an origami daruma doll
A traditional Japanese toy and lucky charm. Fold the edges of a red sheet in so the white side shows through as a face, then round off the corners into a chubby body.
You need: 1 sheet of red paper, about 15 × 21 cm (or A5). Easy, 5 steps, about 4 minutes.
Steps
- Fold the hood. Fold the top edge down a little, about a fifth of the way to the middle.
- Fold the body. Fold the bottom edge up a long way, until a white strip about as tall as the hood's fold is left above it.
- Sides in. Fold the left and right edges in, a little more at the top than at the bottom. The white patch left in the middle is the face.
- Round the head. Fold the two top corners behind, quite a lot, to round the head.
- Round the base. Fold the two bottom corners behind a little, so it can sit and rock.
Make a wish!
Draw bushy brows, a smile and two round eyes, but fill in only one. Make a wish, and fill the other eye in when it comes true.
