How to fold an origami fairy
Fold a pink kite dress, a round face and four rounded wings cut from one folded pale square. Glue them together and draw her smile, her hair and fine wing veins.
You need: A 10 cm pink square for the dress, a 15 cm pale blue square for the wings, a 4 cm skin-tone square, scissors, glue and a black pen. Medium, 12 steps, about 20 minutes.
Steps
- Dress: fold a kite. Start with the pink square, white side up, turned like a diamond. Fold the upper left and upper right edges in to meet on the middle line.
- Dress: shape it. Fold the bottom point behind on a level crease between the side corners for the hem. Fold the top point behind, 2.4 cm down, for the shoulders.
- Head: new sheet. Set the dress aside. Take the little skin-tone square, turned like a diamond.
- Head: round it. Fold all four corners a little way behind to make a round face.
- Wings: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the pale square, pale side up.
- Wings: fold in half. Fold the left edge over onto the right edge.
- Wings: fold again. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge. The corner where the two folds meet is the fairy's back.
- Wings: cut a wing. From the top fold 1 cm from the corner, cut a big round wing that almost reaches the far edges, ending on the left fold 3.4 cm down.
- Wings: open the top. Unfold the top layers back up. Now there are two wings, one above the other.
- Wings: smaller bottom wing. Snip round the edge of the bottom wing only, about 1.5 cm in, so it is smaller than the top one.
- Wings: open them. Open the wings out flat: two big wings on top, two small ones below.
- Glue her together. Glue the dress on the middle of the wings, so they stick out on both sides. Glue the head on top of the dress.
A tiny fairy!
Draw her long hair, eyes and smile, little legs under the dress, white sparkles on the dress and a fine vein in each wing.
