How to fold an origami fire truck

Fold a red half square into the body with a white windscreen. Add a white ladder strip on the roof, a little blue light and two black wheels with white hubcaps, then draw on the details.

You need: Half a 15 cm red square, a 1.5 × 10 cm white strip, a 1 cm blue square, two 3 cm black squares, a glue stick and a black pen. Medium, 15 steps, about 20 minutes.

Steps

  1. Body: fold the bottom behind. Start with the body: the red half square, red side up, long edge at the bottom. Fold the bottom quarter behind.
  2. Body: windscreen. Fold the top-right corner down in front on a slant. The white triangle is the windscreen and the slanted edge is the front of the cab.
  3. Ladder: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the long white strip for the ladder.
  4. Ladder: fold in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, bottom edge up to the top edge, and crease it flat. It makes a stiff, skinny ladder.
  5. Light: new sheet. Set the ladder aside. Take the small blue square for the warning light, blue side up.
  6. Light: round the top. Fold the two top corners a little way behind, so the light has a round dome on top.
  7. Wheel 1: new sheet. Set the light aside. Take a small black square, white side up.
  8. Wheel 1: corners in. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
  9. Wheel 1: hubcap. Fold each point back out a little, so a small white square shows in the middle. That's the hubcap.
  10. Wheel 1: round it. Fold the four points of the square a little way behind, so the wheel looks round.
  11. Wheel 2: new sheet. Set the first wheel aside and take the other black square, white side up.
  12. Wheel 2: corners in. Fold all four corners in to the middle.
  13. Wheel 2: hubcap. Fold each point back out a little for the hubcap.
  14. Wheel 2: round it. Fold the four points behind to round it off.
  15. Put the truck together. Glue the wheels under the body, half showing below. Glue the ladder along the roof and the blue light behind the roof, just behind the cab.

Nee-naw!

Draw the ladder rungs, a side window, the door, lockers, a white stripe and the lights. Race it to the rescue!
