How to fold an origami goldfish

Fold a triangle into a square, snip the two flaps and fan them out into a double tail. Cut away the front corner for a white belly, then round off the body.

You need: 1 square sheet, orange on one side, and scissors. Easy, 8 steps, about 5 minutes.

Steps

  1. Make a triangle. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
  2. Corners down. Fold the left and right corners down to meet the bottom point.
  3. Snip the flaps. Cut along both slanted folds, from the outer corners halfway to the top point.
  4. Fan out the tail. Fold each flap up from the end of its cut to the middle line, halfway between the cut ends and the top point, so the points fan out above.
  5. Lay it on its side. Rotate so the tail points left.
  6. White belly. Lift the front layer and cut off its bottom corner, straight from the inner end of the lower snip to the right-hand point (the nose).
  7. Tuck the notch. Fold the little point between the fins behind, straight across where the fins meet.
  8. Round it off. Fold the nose behind so its tip meets the line between the top and bottom corners. Fold the top tip behind a little, the bottom tip twice as far.

Blub blub!

Stick on a white paper dot for a big eye, or use a white gel pen, then draw the pupil, a curved gill line and a little mouth.
