How to fold an origami hedgehog

Fold a square into a narrow fan and snip a V off its end: open it and the edge is a half circle of spikes. Fold a small kite into a pointy head and glue it on.

You need: 1 square sheet 15 cm wide, brown on one side, a 9 cm square light brown on one side, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 14 steps, about 10 minutes.

Steps

  1. Body: fold in half. Start with the body, brown side up. Fold the right edge over onto the left edge.
  2. Body: edge to the bottom. Fold the folded edge, now on the right, down onto the bottom edge, creasing from the bottom-right corner.
  3. Body: and again. Fold the new slanted edge down onto the bottom edge again, from the same corner. Crease all the layers hard.
  4. Body: cut the spikes. Cut the end into a point through all the layers: from 5.5 cm along each side to a point 7.5 cm from the corner where the folds meet.
  5. Body: open it out. Unfold the last fold.
  6. Body: open again. Unfold the next fold.
  7. Body: open flat. Open the body out flat: a half circle with eight spikes round the edge.
  8. Head: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the small square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
  9. Head: crease. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
  10. Head: make a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the centre crease.
  11. Head: turn it over. Flip the kite over.
  12. Head: fold in half. Fold the right half behind the left half.
  13. Head: lay it down. Turn it so the long point faces left and the fold is at the bottom.
  14. Glue on the head. Glue the body behind the head, so the snout pokes out in front at the bottom left.

Snuffle snuffle!

Colour the tip of the snout black for a nose, then draw an eye and a little ear.
