How to fold an origami husky
Fold a triangle, crease and cut four legs, reverse-fold a tail up and curl it forward, lift and crimp the head, fold up white socks and glue on pointy ears.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, grey on one side, a small grey square for the ears, scissors, glue and a white pen. Hard, 21 steps, about 30 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. White side up, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. The long fold at the top is the husky's back.
- Crease the front legs. Fold the right part over on a crease from 1.9 cm right of the middle on the top fold to 2.6 cm right of it 6 cm down. Crease hard.
- Open it. Unfold it back into the triangle.
- Crease the hind legs. Fold the left part over on a crease from 2.7 cm left of the middle on the top fold to 3.4 cm left of it 6 cm down.
- Open it. Unfold it again. These creases mark the inside edges of the legs.
- Tail back. Outside-reverse-fold the left end back over the body, on an upright crease 4.5 cm left of the middle.
- Cut the legs. Cut the bottom point off level, 6 cm below the top fold. Cut up both leg creases, then across between their tops.
- Cut the tail. Cut up the tail fold, leaving 1.1 cm at the top. Trim the tail flaps to a strip 4.7 cm long, and snip the top corner of the rump round.
- Lift the tail. Outside-reverse-fold the tail out on a crease from its bottom corner, so it sticks out behind.
- Neck back. Outside-reverse-fold the right end back over the body, on an upright crease 3.8 cm right of the middle.
- Cut the neck. Cut up the neck fold, leaving 2.7 cm at the top. Trim the neck flaps to a strip 2.7 cm wide at the fold and 1.4 cm at the tip.
- Lift the neck. Outside-reverse-fold the neck up on a crease from its bottom corner, so it stands up and leans a little forward.
- Head back. Outside-reverse-fold the top 3 cm of the neck back and down, on a crease slanting across the neck from its back edge.
- Head forward. Outside-reverse-fold the head back out on a crease from the same corner, so the nose points forward.
- Round the paws. Snip both bottom corners off each leg, so the paws are round.
- Curl the tail. Outside-reverse-fold the top of the tail forward, 2.3 cm up from where it starts, so it curls over the back, white side out.
- White socks. Fold the bottom 1 cm of every leg up on the outside, so white socks show on both sides.
- Ears: a small square. Set the husky aside. Take a 2 cm square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Ears: a kite. Fold the two top edges in to meet on the middle line, so the top is a sharp point.
- Ears: fold the bottom. Fold the bottom point behind, level with the side corners. Make a second ear the same.
- Glue on the ears. Glue an ear behind the top of the head on each side, points up.
Awoo!
Colour a white mask over the muzzle and cheek, a white spot above the eye, and a white chest and belly. Draw the eye and nose.
