How to fold an origami little paper lantern

Fold the corners of a diamond behind for a round lantern, then a pleat near the top and one near the bottom step in the two caps.

You need: 1 square sheet, red on one side. Easy, 5 steps, about 6 minutes.

Steps

  1. Corners behind. Put the square coloured side up like a diamond. Fold the left and right corners behind, then the top and bottom corners too.
  2. Top behind. Fold the top of the lantern behind, along a line a short way below the flat top.
  3. And back up. Behind, fold it back up a little lower, so a narrow cap peeks over the top.
  4. Bottom behind. Do the same at the bottom: fold it behind a short way above the flat bottom.
  5. And back down. Behind, fold it back down a little higher, so a cap peeks out at the bottom too.

Light it up!

Draw a few ribs down the lantern. Make a string of them in different colours for a party.
