How to fold an origami magic wand
Fold a small square into a slim point and make one cut to open a five-point star. Fold a strip into a thin stick and glue the star on top. Wave it and make a wish!
You need: A 7.5 cm yellow square for the star, a 7.5 × 15 cm pink strip for the stick, scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 15 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Star: fold in half. Start with the yellow square, yellow side up. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge. The middle of the top fold is the star's centre.
- Star: left side over. Fold from the centre down to a point on the bottom edge 1.2 cm left of its middle, bringing the left part over to the right.
- Star: right side over. Fold the right part over along the edge of the flap you just made, so it lies on top.
- Star: fold in half. Fold the left half of the point over onto the right half, lining up the edges. Now it is a slim point of many layers.
- Star: one cut. Cut straight from the left edge 3.6 cm from the point across to the right edge 1.5 cm from the point.
- Star: unfold. Unfold the last fold.
- Star: unfold again. Unfold the right part.
- Star: and again. Unfold the left part.
- Star: open it. Unfold the top half. A five-point star!
- Star: turn it. Turn the star so one point is straight up.
- Stick: new sheet. Set the star aside. Take the pink strip, pink side down, long edges up and down.
- Stick: fold in half. Fold the right edge over onto the left edge.
- Stick: again. Fold it in half the same way again, pressing hard.
- Stick: and once more. Fold it in half one last time: a thin stick about 1 cm wide. Glue the layers flat so it stays stiff.
- Glue on the star. Glue the star on the top of the stick, the stick reaching up to the star's middle.
Make a wish!
Draw white sparkles on the star and a few twinkles round it. Wave it, close your eyes and make a wish.
