How to fold an origami stingray

Fold the square in half and tuck the bottom up out of the way. Cut the wings and snout, let the tail down and cut it thin, then open out a flat, wide ray.

You need: 1 square sheet (15 cm), blue-grey on one side, scissors and a white gel pen or a black pen. Medium, 6 steps, about 10 minutes.

Steps

  1. Fold in half. Fold the left corner over onto the right corner.
  2. Tail out of the way. Fold the bottom point up on a crease 7.9 cm below the top. This is the tail, kept safe while you cut.
  3. Cut the wings. Holding the tail up, round the top into a snout. Snip along the tail's crease to 5 mm from the fold, then cut straight from there out to the wing tip.
  4. Tail down. Fold the tail back down.
  5. Cut the tail thin. Cut the tail into a long thin whip, from 5 mm wide where the wing ends down to a point at the bottom.
  6. Open the wings. Open it out flat, coloured side up. A wide diamond ray with a long thin tail!

Glide away!

Draw two eyes near the snout and dot a few white spots across the wings. Bend the wings up a little so it glides.
