How to fold an origami mole
Tuck the corners of a dark square behind for a round body. Cut a tiny pink square folded small into an eight-point star nose, and slide a strip of paws behind.
You need: Dark grey paper: a 15 cm square. Pink paper: a 4.5 cm square and a 4.5 × 20 cm strip. Scissors, glue. Medium, 14 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Body: tuck the corners. Start with the body: the dark square, dark side up, like a diamond. Fold the top and bottom corners behind 4.5 cm, the side corners 2.5 cm.
- Body: round it off. Fold the eight little corners behind too, so the mole is soft and round.
- Nose: new sheet. Set the body aside. Take the small pink square, pink side up.
- Nose: fold in half. Fold the bottom edge up onto the top edge.
- Nose: in half again. Fold the right edge over onto the left edge. Now it's a small square.
- Nose: fold a triangle. Fold it in half corner to corner, from the corner where all the folds meet, so the top edge lies on the left edge.
- Nose: cut a point. Cut a point off the long side: snip in from both edges to a tip in the middle of the far side. Keep the corner where the folds meet.
- Nose: unfold. Unfold the triangle.
- Nose: unfold again. Unfold the next fold.
- Nose: open the star. Open it flat: a pink star with eight points.
- Paws: new sheet. Set the nose aside. Take the pink strip, white side up, long side across.
- Paws: fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- Paws: shape the ends. Round both ends with two snips at each corner, so each end is a big round paw.
- Glue it together. Glue the body on the middle of the paw strip, so a paw sticks out on each side, and glue the star nose in the middle of the face.
Hello, digger!
Draw two tiny eyes above the nose and a few claws on each paw. Moles can hardly see, so keep the eyes small!
