How to fold an origami onigiri

Black paper does the trick: fold the sides and top in so white covers almost everything, leaving a black strip at the bottom. Fold the sides behind into a soft triangle.

You need: 1 sheet of A4 or Letter paper, black on one side and white on the other. Easy, 4 steps, about 4 minutes.

Steps

  1. Sides in. Black side up, long edges at the top and bottom. Fold both sides in, leaving a black strip down the middle.
  2. Top down. Fold the top edge down over the middle. Now only the bottom of the black strip shows: that's the nori.
  3. Triangle. Fold the two top corners behind, from the top middle down to the bottom corners, to make a triangle.
  4. Soft corners. Fold the three points of the triangle behind, just a little, so the rice ball looks round and soft.
