How to fold an origami trotting piglet
Fold a chunky kite body, slit stubby legs and swing them down, free a wide strip along the back: flop the front into an ear and zigzag the back into a curly tail.
You need: 1 pink square (15 cm), scissors and a black pen. Hard, 19 steps, about 30 minutes.
Steps
- Crease the middle. White side up, turned like a diamond, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner, crease and unfold.
- Kite. Fold the edges at the left point in on creases from the point to 9.8 cm above and below the middle crease. That end is the piglet's snout.
- Narrow the other end. Fold the edges at the right point in on creases from the point to 9 cm above and below the middle crease. That end is the tail.
- Tummy corners. Fold the top and bottom corners in on creases 7.5 cm above and below the middle crease. They will be hidden inside.
- Fold in half. Fold the top half down onto the bottom half along the middle crease. The long fold on top is the back, the flat bottom is the tummy.
- Crease two strips. Fold the bottom edge up 1.7 cm and the top edge down 1.2 cm, all layers, and crease both hard. These strips give the legs and the ear and tail.
- Open it. Unfold both strips again.
- Slit the legs. Cut along the strip crease from the front end in 2.7 cm, and from the back end in 2.7 cm.
- Free the ear and tail. Cut along the top crease from the front end in 3.9 cm. Cut along the top crease from the back end in 4.2 cm.
- Front legs. Swing the front strip down on slanted creases from its inner end, the front layers one way and the back ones behind, a little apart.
- Back legs. Swing the back strip down the same way, the front layers forward and the back ones behind.
- Flat snout. Fold the pointed tip of the head behind on an upright crease 3.7 cm from its tip, all layers but the strip on top, so the snout ends flat.
- Ear. Fold the free front strip up behind on a slanted crease from the end of its cut, both layers together, so it stands up.
- Floppy ear. Fold the top of the ear forward and down on a slanted crease near its root, so it flops over the face.
- Thin tail. Fold the lower edge of the free back strip behind on a crease from the end of its cut to the tail point, both layers, so the tail tapers.
- Tail up. Fold the thin tail up behind on a slanted crease from the end of its cut, both layers together.
- Curl. Fold the tip of the tail back down on a crease across it halfway along, so the tail hooks over into a curl.
- Round rump. Fold the pointed back end of the body behind on a crease slanting from just behind the tail down to the belly. Leave the tail and legs out.
- Rounder. Fold the new corner at the bottom of the rump behind a little too, so the rump is round.
Oink, oink!
Draw a shiny eye under the ear and two nostrils on the flat snout.
