How to fold an origami warning skunk
Fold a low kite body, slit short legs and swing them down, free a wide strip at the tail end, stand it up and fold its top forward into an arching plume.
You need: 1 black square (15 cm), scissors and a white pen. Hard, 17 steps, about 30 minutes.
Steps
- Crease the middle. White side up, turned like a diamond, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner, crease and unfold.
- Kite. Fold the edges at the left point in on creases from the point to 8.3 cm above and below the middle crease. That end is the skunk's snout.
- Narrow the other end. Fold the edges at the right point in on creases from the point to 6.4 cm above and below the middle crease. That end is the tail.
- Tummy corners. Fold the top and bottom corners in on creases 5.3 cm above and below the middle crease. They will be hidden inside.
- Fold in half. Fold the top half down onto the bottom half along the middle crease. The long fold on top is the back, the flat bottom is the tummy.
- Crease two strips. Fold the bottom edge up 1.2 cm and the top edge down 2 cm, all layers, and crease both hard. These strips give the legs and the tail.
- Open it. Unfold both strips again.
- Slit the legs. Cut along the strip crease from the front end in 2.8 cm, and from the back end in 3.6 cm.
- Free the tail. Cut along the top crease from the back end in 7.4 cm.
- Front legs. Swing the front strip down on slanted creases from its inner end, the front layers one way and the back ones behind, a little apart.
- Back legs: stamp. Swing the back strip down the same way, the front layers forward and the back ones behind.
- Tail up. Fold the wide free strip up behind on a crease from the end of its cut, both layers together, so the tail stands straight up.
- Arch the plume. Fold the top of the tail forward and down on a slanted crease 6 cm up from its root, so the plume arches over the back.
- Round rump. Fold the pointed back end of the body behind on a crease slanting from just behind the tail down to the belly. Leave the tail and legs out.
- Snout. Fold the sharp tip of the head behind, 1.3 cm from the tip, all layers together, so the snout is short.
- Head: crease. Fold the head end over on an upright crease 3.8 cm behind the snout, all layers but the legs.
- Head: crimp down. Fold it back on a crease slanting from the same top point, so the head dips down, nose to the ground.
Stamp, stamp!
Draw a white eye, and a white stripe from the nose along the back and up the middle of the tail.
