How to fold an origami piranha
A kite left open, so the body is deep. Pleat a step behind the head, snip the mouth so the pointed lower jaw juts out, round the body and fork the tail.
You need: 1 square sheet (15 cm), dark grey on one side and white on the other, scissors, a white pen and a black pen. Hard, 10 steps, about 20 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Grey side up, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.
- And open it. Unfold it again, so you have a sharp crease across the middle.
- Make a kite. Fold the two right-hand edges behind to meet along the middle crease, so the front stays grey.
- Fold the head over. Fold the left part over to the right on an upright crease 7 cm from the left corner.
- Pleat it back. Fold it back to the left on a crease 6 mm to the right, so a step stands behind the head.
- Round the back. Fold the top and bottom corners behind on gentle slants, the back higher than the belly.
- Snip the mouth. Snip along the middle crease from the snout corner, 3 cm in, so the upper and lower jaws come apart.
- Underbite. Fold just the upper jaw behind on a steep slant from the end of the snip. The pointed lower jaw now juts out in front.
- Snip the tail. Snip along the middle crease from the tail tip, about 6 cm, so the tail splits into two halves.
- Fork the tail. Fold each half of the tail out on a slant from the end of the snip, one up and one down, so the tail is a wide fork.
Chomp!
Draw a big eye, a mouth line from the chin and a row of white pointed teeth along it.
