How to fold an origami street lamp
Fold a long strip into a thin bar. Fold out a foot, run up the pole and curl the top over with four slanted folds, then hang a little yellow lamp from the end.
You need: 1 black strip, 30 x 3 cm, 1 yellow square, 5 x 5 cm, and glue. Medium, 12 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. White side up, fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- In half again. Fold the bottom edge up onto the top edge: a long, thin black bar.
- Foot. About 4 cm from the left end, fold the rest of the bar back to the left, on top.
- Up the pole. Halfway along the foot, fold the bar straight up with a 45-degree fold: the pole.
- Start the crook. About 15 cm up, fold the top over to the right on a long slant, so it leans out halfway between up and right.
- Over the top. About 2 cm on, fold it on a slant again so it points straight right.
- Round the bend. About 2 cm on, fold it down on a slant again.
- Down at the end. Fold the end straight down on a slant again, so it hangs from the crook.
- Lamp: new sheet. Set the pole aside. Take the small yellow square, white side up.
- Lamp: fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge.
- Shape the lamp. Fold the two top corners behind on a slant and the two bottom corners behind a little: a glowing lantern.
- Hang the lamp. Glue the lamp onto the hanging end of the pole, the end tucked behind its top.
Lights on!
