How to fold an origami sword
Two parts: a long, pointed blade folded from a whole sheet, and a golden hilt folded like an upside-down witch hat, with its brim as the guard.
You need: 1 grey or silver A4 sheet for the blade, and 1 gold or yellow square about 12 cm wide for the hilt. Medium, 13 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Blade: crease the middle. Start with the blade, grey side down. Fold the sheet in half from side to side, crease, and unfold.
- Blade: edges to the middle. Fold the long edges in to meet at the centre crease.
- Blade: make it narrow. Fold the long edges in to the middle again.
- Blade: start the tip. Fold the two top corners down so their tips meet on the centre crease.
- Blade: sharpen the tip. Fold the new slanted edges in to the centre crease too, so the blade comes to a sharp point.
- Hilt: new sheet. Set the blade aside. Take the gold square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Hilt: crease the diagonal. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
- Hilt: make a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to lie along the centre crease.
- Hilt: tuck the white tip. Fold the white point at the top down behind, along the line between the side corners.
- Hilt: fold the top down. Fold the wide top edge down by about a quarter of the hilt's height.
- Hilt: fold the guard up. Fold the flap back up along its middle, so a gold guard sticks out at both sides.
- Hilt: blunt the end. Fold the bottom point up behind a little, to make the end of the handle.
- Put it together. Dab glue on the blade's bottom end and slide it behind the hilt, right up under the guard.
