How to fold an origami wave
Fold a white band of foam along the top of a blue square, then fold it on a slant and make one cut: it opens into a deep hollow under the hanging crest.
You need: 1 square sheet (15 cm), blue on one side, and scissors. Medium, 6 steps, about 6 minutes.
Steps
- Fold the foam. Start blue side up. Fold the top edge down 1.2 cm. The white strip is the foam on the crest.
- Slope the back. Fold the top-right corner behind, from 6.4 cm along the top to 9.4 cm down the right edge.
- Fold on a slant. Fold the bottom part up on a slant: the crease runs from the left edge, 9 cm below the top, to the sloping edge, 3.5 cm down it.
- Cut the hollow. Cut straight across both layers, from the left edge 4.8 cm below the top, rising a little to the fold 7.9 cm in from the left edge.
- Open it. Unfold it. A deep V bites in under the top: the hollow under the wave's hanging crest.
- Curl the lip. Fold the top-left corner down onto the front, from 3 cm down the left edge to 3 cm along the top. The lip now curls down to a point.
Surf's up!
Draw a few curved lines down the face of the wave. Make a row of them for a whole stormy sea.
