How to fold an origami wolf

Tip a triangle up so its fold is the back. Crease and cut the front legs and tail, snip the ears free and swing them back, fold in a white front and crimp the head up to howl.

You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, grey on one side, small scissors and a ruler. Hard, 13 steps, about 20 minutes.

Steps

  1. Fold in half. White side up, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. The long fold at the top will be the wolf's back.
  2. Crease the ear strip. Fold the top edge down 1.2 cm through both layers and crease it hard. The end of this strip will become the ears.
  3. Open it. Unfold the strip again.
  4. Tip it up. Turn it so the right point is straight above the bottom point. The long fold is the back, the right point the head, the left point the tail.
  5. Crease legs and tail. Fold the upright right edge over 1.8 cm and crease it: the front legs. Fold the left point over on an upright crease 4.9 cm from it: the tail.
  6. Open them. Unfold both creases.
  7. Cut the ears free. Cut 6 cm down the ear crease from the chest edge, and just as far down the back fold, so the end of the strip stands free as two ears.
  8. Cut legs and tail. Cut 4.3 cm up the leg crease and slant the haunch back to 1.6 cm behind it. Cut 2 cm down the tail crease, then out to the tail tip. Round the rump.
  9. Ears back. Outside-reverse-fold the ears back on a crease from the bottom of the ear cut, so they stand up and lean back over the neck.
  10. Point the ears. Cut both ears from the front corner to a point 2.2 cm up the back edge. Trim the front layer's tip 3 mm smaller, so a grey rim shows.
  11. White front. Fold the chest edge of each layer inside, on a crease from just below the head to 1 cm in at the paws, so a white strip shows down the front.
  12. Head down. Fold the head of each layer forward and down on a crease from the bottom of the ear cut, across the neck to the chest.
  13. Head up. Fold the head back up on a crease from the same corner, so the muzzle points up at the sky. Glue the head layers together.

Awoooo!

Draw a closed eye on each side and colour the nose dark. Snip a little fringe into the tail and stand your wolf up.
