How to fold an origami yacht
It begins like the Sailboat, then one snip turns the white paper into a tall mainsail and a smaller jib for a racing yacht. Slant the ends for a sharp bow, then draw the mast and portholes.
You need: 1 square sheet, blue on one side, and scissors. Easy, 6 steps, about 4 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Fold the right edge over to the left edge and crease firmly.
- Open it again. Unfold it. This centre crease is where the mast goes.
- Fold up the hull. Fold the bottom edge up to the middle of the sheet. This coloured band is the hull.
- Top corners behind. Fold both top corners behind, creasing from the top of the centre crease to each top corner of the hull. You get a big white triangle.
- Cut the sails apart. Snip down the centre crease from the top to the hull. Then cut from the bottom of that snip to a quarter of the way down the left slanted edge.
- Slant the ends. Fold the hull's bottom corners behind: a big slant at the left for a pointed bow, from the top corner to halfway to the middle, and a small one at the right.
Ready to race!
Draw the mast up the edge of the tall sail and a boom along its bottom, then three portholes with a white gel pen or paper dots.
