How to fold an origami acorn
Fold a brown diamond into a nut with a thin stem at the top, then fold a darker square into a domed cap and glue it over the top of the nut.
You need: A 15 cm square, brown on one side, an 11 cm square in a darker brown, and a glue stick. Easy, 9 steps, about 6 minutes.
Steps
- Nut: crease. Start with the nut, white side up, like a diamond. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
- Nut: thin top. Fold the two top edges in to lie along the centre crease, so the top becomes a long thin point.
- Nut: turn it over. Flip it over so the brown side faces you.
- Nut: sides and stem. Fold the two side corners and the very tip of the top point a little way behind. The sides stand up straight and the stem gets short.
- Nut: round the bottom. Fold the two bottom corners and the very bottom tip a little way behind, to round off the nut.
- Cap: new sheet. Set the nut aside. Take the darker square, white side up.
- Cap: fold in half. Fold the bottom edge up to the top edge.
- Cap: round it. Fold the two top corners behind a long way, and the two bottom corners just a little, so the cap gets a round dome.
- Put on the cap. Glue the cap over the top of the nut, its folded edge across the nut, with the thin stem poking out above.
A fine acorn!
Draw rows of little bumps on the cap. Make a few and line them up on the windowsill.
