How to fold an origami bathtub
Fold a pink strip into a long, low tub with a white rim, bend two gold strips into four clawed feet, and tuck a cloud of blue foam behind the rim.
You need: A 15 x 7.5 cm pink strip, gold strips 1.5 x 19 and 1.5 x 17 cm, a 12 cm light blue square and glue. Medium, 16 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Tub: white rim. Pink side up, lying across. Fold the top edge down a thin strip, about 1 cm. The white strip is the rim.
- Tub: bottom behind. Fold the bottom edge behind, about 1 cm, so the tub is long and low.
- Tub: rim lips. Fold the sides behind on a slight slant, starting just under the rim, so the rim sticks out like a lip. Round its corners a tiny bit.
- Tub: round the ends. Fold the two bottom corners behind on a slant, about 2 cm, so the ends curve up gently.
- Back feet: gold strip. Set it aside. Take the shorter gold strip, white side up, lying across.
- Back feet: in half. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, top edge down to the bottom edge.
- Back feet: legs down. Fold both ends straight down on a slant, about 4 cm from each end. These are the legs.
- Back feet: claws out. Fold the tip of each leg outwards on a slant, about 1 cm from its end. These are the claws.
- Front feet: gold strip. Set it aside. Take the longer gold strip, white side up, lying across.
- Front feet: in half. Fold the strip in half lengthwise, top edge down to the bottom edge.
- Front feet: legs down. Fold both ends straight down on a slant, about 4 cm from each end. These are the legs.
- Front feet: claws out. Fold the tip of each leg outwards on a slant, about 1 cm from its end. These are the claws.
- Foam: blue square. Set the feet aside. Take the light blue square, coloured side up.
- Foam: in half. Fold the top half behind, down to the bottom edge.
- Foam: puff it up. Fold the two top corners behind, about 2 cm, so the foam is a round heap.
- Run the bath. Glue the foam behind the tub so it heaps over the rim. Glue both pairs of feet behind the ends, the shorter pair a bit higher.
Bath time!
Draw round bubbles on the foam and a few floating up. Add a little rubber duck if you like.
