How to fold an origami cable car
Fold a square into a cabin with a white band of windows and a rounded roof. Hang it from a grey arm on a long black cable with a little grip on top.
You need: A 15 cm orange square, a 1 × 6 cm grey strip, a 1 × 20 cm black strip, a 1.5 cm black square, a glue stick and a black pen. Medium, 11 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Cabin: roof. Start with the orange square, white side up. Fold the top edge down a strip about a third of the way to the middle. It shows orange.
- Cabin: floor. Fold the bottom edge up the same way, a bit less, leaving a wide white band in the middle for the windows.
- Cabin: narrow it. Fold the left and right edges behind, a strip about an eighth of the width each, so the cabin is a little taller than wide.
- Cabin: round it. Fold the four corners behind: big slants at the top for a rounded roof, small ones at the bottom.
- Hanger: new sheet. Set the cabin aside. Take the grey strip for the hanger, grey side up, standing tall.
- Hanger: fold in half. Fold it in half the long way, right half behind, so it's a thin, stiff arm.
- Grip: new sheet. Set the hanger aside. Take the small black square for the grip that clamps the cable.
- Grip: round it. Fold all four corners behind a little, so the grip is round.
- Cable: new sheet. Set the grip aside. Take the long black strip for the cable.
- Cable: fold in half. Fold it in half the long way, bottom half behind, so the cable is thin.
- Hang the cabin. Glue the hanger behind the middle of the roof, the cabin well below the cable, then the hanger's top behind the cable and the grip over it.
Going up!
Draw the window frames, a door in the middle and white stripes along the bottom. Wave at the mountains as it glides along the cable!
