How to fold an origami bear cub
A big round head with round ears and a pale muzzle sits on a plump round tummy. One strip makes two arms reaching up and out, another makes two little feet.
You need: Two brown squares, a small pale square for the muzzle, three brown strips for the ears, arms and feet, and glue. Medium, 21 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Head: corners to the middle. Start with the head. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
- Head: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth coloured side faces you.
- Head: round it off. Fold the side points behind a little and the top and bottom points a bit more, so the head is wide and round.
- Ears: brown strip. Set the head aside. Take the short wide brown strip, white side up.
- Ears: fold it in half. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge.
- Ears: round the ends. Fold all four corners behind on a slant, so both ends are round. They will peek out as the ears.
- Muzzle: small pale square. Set the ears aside. Take the small pale square, white side up.
- Muzzle: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
- Muzzle: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth coloured side faces you.
- Muzzle: round it off. Fold all four points behind, so the muzzle is a round oval.
- Arms: brown strip. Set the muzzle aside. Take a long brown strip, white side up.
- Arms: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, top edge down to the bottom edge, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
- Arms: bend the arms. Fold each end down and out on a slant, near the middle. Turned upside down later, these are arms reaching out.
- Feet: brown strip. Set the arms aside. Take a shorter brown strip, white side up.
- Feet: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, top edge down to the bottom edge, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
- Feet: bend the feet. Fold each end down and out on a slant, near the middle, so two little feet stick out.
- Body: new sheet. Set the feet aside. Take the second brown square, white side up.
- Body: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
- Body: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth coloured side faces you.
- Body: round it off. Fold all four points behind, so the tummy is plump and round.
- Glue it together. Glue the head on the body, the ears behind the head and the muzzle on the face. Glue the arms upside down behind the shoulders, the feet below.
Bear hug!
Draw two eyes, a big black nose and a smile on the muzzle, inner ears, and pale pads on the paws and feet.
