How to fold an origami foal
A small oval body stands on four long thin legs spread out for balance. The neck is a slim kite whose tip bends forward into the head, with a short mane and tail.
You need: A square for the body, a smaller square for the neck, three thin strips (two for the legs, a dark one for the tail), and glue. Medium, 17 steps, about 15 minutes.
Steps
- Body: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
- Body: turn it over. Flip it over so the smooth coloured side faces you.
- Body: round it off. Fold the side points behind a little and the top and bottom points a lot, so the body is a wide oval.
- Neck: smaller square. Set the body aside. Take the smaller square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Neck: crease the diagonal. Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease, and unfold.
- Neck: make a kite. Fold the two upper edges in to lie along the centre crease.
- Neck: fold it in half. Fold the left half over onto the right half along the crease.
- Neck: bend the head. Fold the long thin point over to the right on a slant, about a third of the way down, so it becomes the head.
- Tail: dark strip. Set the neck aside. Take the short dark strip, white side up.
- Tail: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way. The tail is done.
- Far legs: long strip. Set the tail aside. Take a long thin strip, white side up.
- Far legs: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, top edge down to the bottom edge, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
- Far legs: bend the legs down. Fold each end down on a slant, a little way from the middle, so two long legs spread wide apart.
- Near legs: long strip. Set those legs aside. Take the other long strip, white side up.
- Near legs: fold it in half. Fold the strip in half the long way, top edge down to the bottom edge, so it is thin and coloured on both sides.
- Near legs: bend the legs down. Fold both ends down on a slant just like the first pair.
- Glue it together. Glue the body over the near legs. Glue the neck behind its front, the tail behind its back, and the far legs behind, a little to one side.
Wobble, wobble, gallop!
