How to fold an origami beluga
A kite folded in half makes a plump whale body. Snip the head round for the beluga's bulgy melon, then fold the tail up.
You need: 1 square sheet (15 cm), pale blue-grey on one side, scissors and a black pen. Medium, 5 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Fold a kite. Fold the two lower edges in to meet along the middle, so the bottom becomes a long point.
- Fold in half. Fold the left half over onto the right half. The wide top is the head, the long point the tail.
- Round the head. Snip the top point and the corner on the right into one big round curve, starting 6.6 cm above the side corner on the folded edge.
- Tail up. Fold the thin end over on a slant, from the folded edge 4.6 cm above the tip, so the tail swings out to the right.
- Lay it on its side. Turn the whale so its head points left and the tail flicks up.
A happy beluga!
Draw a small eye, a big curving smile under the round forehead and a little flipper.
