How to fold an origami mixing bowl

A white band at the top makes the rim and a few folds behind round the bowl off into a wide, low dish. A folded strip is the wooden spoon leaning out of it.

You need: A 15 cm square of blue paper, white on the back, a 3 x 16 cm strip of light brown paper, and glue. Easy, 9 steps, about 7 minutes.

Steps

  1. Bowl: white rim. Bowl first. Start blue side up. Fold the top edge down by a strip about 1.5 cm wide. The white strip is the rim.
  2. Bowl: bottom behind. Fold the bottom edge behind, about 5 cm, so the bowl is wide and low.
  3. Bowl: slope the sides. Fold the bottom corners behind on a slant, from each side 5 cm above the bottom to 4 cm in along the bottom edge.
  4. Bowl: round it off. Fold the tips of the four new corners behind, a little over 1 cm, so the bowl is nicely round.
  5. Spoon: new sheet. Set the bowl aside. Take the brown strip, white side up, standing tall.
  6. Spoon: fold in half. Fold it in half along its length, left edge over onto the right edge, and glue it flat.
  7. Spoon: round the top. Fold the two top corners behind a little to round the end of the spoon.
  8. Spoon: tilt it. Turn the spoon so its top leans a little to the right.
  9. Glue it together. Glue the bottom half of the spoon behind the bowl, so the spoon leans out over the rim.

Let's bake!

Draw a white shine on the side of the bowl. Then stir, stir, stir the pretend cake batter!
