How to fold an origami burger
A tan sheet folds into the domed bun, and three strips for the patty, the cheese and the lettuce are glued across it. The cheese ends fold down into drips.
You need: 1 tan square for the bun, strips in brown, yellow and green (about a third as tall as the square), scissors and glue. Medium, 14 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Bun: bottom behind. Start with the bun, tan side up. Fold the bottom edge behind by a fifth of the sheet.
- Bun: dome the top. Fold the two top corners behind at a slant, to make the round top of the bun.
- Bun: round it. Fold the new corners of the dome behind a little, and the two bottom corners too.
- Patty: new strip. Set the bun aside. Take the brown strip, a little longer than the bun is wide, brown side up.
- Patty: edges behind. Fold the top and bottom edges behind to meet in the middle.
- Patty: round the ends. Fold the four corners behind, just a little, so the patty has round ends.
- Cheese: new strip. Set the patty aside. Take the yellow strip, a bit longer than the patty, yellow side up.
- Cheese: fold in half. Fold the top half behind, so the strip is yellow on both sides.
- Cheese: ends down. Fold each end down at a slant, so it hangs straight down like melted cheese.
- Cheese: point the drips. Snip both bottom corners off each hanging end, so the drips come to a point.
- Lettuce: new strip. Set the cheese aside. Take the green strip, the longest one, green side up.
- Lettuce: fold in half. Fold the top half behind, so the strip is green on both sides.
- Lettuce: round the ends. Fold the four corners behind a little, to round the leafy ends.
- Stack the burger. Glue the bun behind the lettuce near its top, then slide the patty and the cheese in between, with the cheese drips over the patty.
Order up!
Dot white sesame seeds on the top bun and draw wavy lines on the lettuce. Want a double? Add a second patty.
