How to fold an origami hot dog
Three parts: a tan bun, a long red sausage with round ends, and a thin yellow strip turned three times into a mustard zigzag. Glue them in a stack.
You need: 1 tan and 1 red square of the same size, a thin strip of yellow paper (about three-quarters as long), and glue. Medium, 15 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Bun: edges behind. Start with the bun, tan side up. Fold the top and bottom edges behind to meet in the middle.
- Bun: ends behind. Fold the left and right ends behind by an eighth of the band.
- Bun: round it. Fold the four corners behind at a slant, to start rounding the bun.
- Bun: round it more. Fold the eight new corners behind, just a little.
- Mustard: new strip. Set the bun aside. Take the thin yellow strip, yellow side up.
- Mustard: in half. Fold the strip in half along its length, the bottom half behind, so it's yellow on both sides.
- Mustard: turn down. A quarter of the way along, fold the rest of the strip down at a slant, so it points straight down.
- Mustard: turn right. Fold it at a slant again, so the rest points to the right. It makes a step.
- Mustard: turn down. One more slanted fold turns the end down again. Now the strip is a staircase.
- Sausage: new sheet. Set the mustard aside. Take the red square, red side up.
- Sausage: edges behind. Fold the top and bottom edges behind to meet in the middle.
- Sausage: slim it. Fold the top and bottom edges behind to the middle once more, to make a long thin sausage.
- Sausage: round the ends. Fold the four corners behind at a slant.
- Sausage: round it more. Fold the eight new corners behind, just a little, so both ends are nice and round.
- Put it together. Glue the bun behind the sausage so both ends stick out. Turn the mustard staircase on its corner and glue it along the sausage as a zigzag.
