How to fold an origami car

Fold two small squares into round wheels with white hubcaps. Then fold a paper strip into the body: a coloured roof stripe, white windows and a sloping windscreen. Glue the wheels on and draw the doors and lights.

You need: A square sheet, coloured on one side, cut in half (one half for the body, the other for the wheels), scissors and a glue stick. Medium, 13 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Wheel 1: corners to the middle. Wheels first: fold the wheel half in half three times and cut on the creases. Take a small square, white side up, and fold all four corners in to meet in the middle.
  2. Wheel 1: tips back out. Fold each point back out a little, so a small white square shows in the middle. That's the hubcap.
  3. Wheel 1: round it off. Fold the four points of the square behind, just a little, so the wheel looks round.
  4. Wheel 2: new sheet. Set the first wheel aside. Take another small square, white side up.
  5. Wheel 2: corners to the middle. Fold all four corners in to the middle.
  6. Wheel 2: tips back out. Fold each point back out a little for the hubcap.
  7. Wheel 2: round it off. Fold the four points behind to round it off.
  8. Body: new sheet. Now the body. Take the long strip, white side up, lying flat.
  9. Body: roof stripe. Fold the top edge down a thin strip, about as wide as a pencil. That coloured stripe is the roof.
  10. Body: fold up the bottom. Fold the bottom edge up until it reaches just past the middle. The white band left under the roof is the windows.
  11. Body: slope the windows. Hold the bottom flap down. Fold both top corners behind on a slant so the roof ends hang straight down; each crease meets the flap's top edge a finger from the end.
  12. Body: round the bumpers. Fold the four corners of the lower body behind, a little each, so the bumpers look round.
  13. Glue on the wheels. Glue the wheels on the body's bottom edge, half of each sticking out below: one under the back window, one under the windscreen.

Vroom!

Draw the window frames, a door line, a handle and the lights. Push it along the table!
