How to fold an origami imp bunny

Three small pieces: a night-blue hood with two tall bunny ears, a white face with its corners tucked behind, and a pointy bow tie snipped from a folded strip. Glue them together and draw a wink and a sneaky grin.

You need: A 15 cm dark blue square (white back), a 6 cm white square, a 7.5 × 3 cm teal strip, scissors, a glue stick and a white gel pen. Medium, 16 steps, about 12 minutes.

Steps

  1. Hood: make a triangle. Start with the hood: the big square as a diamond, white side up. Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.
  2. Hood: corners down. Fold the left and right corners down to meet the bottom point.
  3. Hood: snip the ears free. Cut along both slanted folds, from the outer corners about two-thirds of the way to the top centre.
  4. Hood: ears up. Fold both flaps up so their points stand tall above the top edge, a little apart, like two bunny ears.
  5. Hood: slim the ears. Fold the outer edge of each ear in, on a straight up-and-down line a little outside its tip. Fold the tips of the side corners in a little too.
  6. Hood: round the ear tips. Snip the sharp tip off each ear: one cut straight across, then one off each corner, so the ears end round like a bunny's.
  7. Hood: turn it over. Flip the hood over. That's the first part done.
  8. Face: new sheet. Set the hood aside. Take the small white square. It stays white: this is the face.
  9. Face: round the corners. Fold all four corners behind: the top two just a little, the bottom two more, so the chin turns round.
  10. Bow: new strip. Set the face aside. Take the teal strip, coloured side up, lying flat and wide.
  11. Bow: fold in half. Fold the left end over onto the right end.
  12. Bow: in half again. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge.
  13. Bow: snip two corners. With both folds at the top and left, snip a long slant off the bottom-left corner by the first fold, then a small bit off the top-right corner. Cut all the layers.
  14. Bow: open it up. Unfold the top half again.
  15. Bow: open it out. Unfold the left half too. Now it's a bow tie with pointy wing tips.
  16. Glue it together. Glue the face in the middle of the hood, so a blue rim shows all round it. Then glue the bow tie over the hood's bottom point, just under the chin.

Hee hee!

Draw one sly eye, one wink and a lopsided grin with a little fang. With the white gel pen, add a moon beside one cheek, a few tiny stars and a stripe inside each ear.
