How to fold an origami caterpillar
Fold a sheet of A4 into a long strip. Pleat it on pairs of creases that fan out from one point, so it bends into wiggly segments, then lift the head the same way and give it a smiley face.
You need: 1 sheet of A4 or Letter paper, green on one side, a black pen and a white gel pen. Medium, 12 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. Fold the left edge over to the right edge.
- In half again. Fold the left edge over to the right edge again, to make a long strip.
- Lay it across. Turn the strip so it lies across in front of you.
- Round the ends. Fold the four corners of the strip a little behind.
- Bend 1: fold over. Fold the left end over to the right, on a crease from a point on the top edge a fifth of the way along, leaning a little left.
- Bend 1: fold back. Fold it back to the left, on a crease from the same point leaning a little right. The strip bends at the narrow pleat.
- Bend 2: fold over. Fold the whole left end over again, a segment further along, on a crease from a point on the bottom edge, leaning a little left.
- Bend 2: fold back. Fold it back to the left, on a crease from the same point leaning a little right. The strip bends at the narrow pleat.
- Bend 3: fold over. Fold the whole left end over again, a segment further along, on a crease from a point on the top edge, leaning a little left.
- Bend 3: fold back. Fold it back to the left, on a crease from the same point leaning a little right. The strip bends at the narrow pleat.
- Head: fold over. Now the front. Fold the right end over to the left, on a crease that slants out from a point on the bottom edge.
- Head: fold back. Fold it back to the right on a crease from the same point, leaning the other way, so the head lifts up.
Munch munch!
Draw a smiley face on the head, then give every segment a white dot with the gel pen.
