How to fold an origami christmas wreath
Fan-fold a green square, make two cuts and it opens into a leafy ring. Snip a red bow from a folded rectangle and add three red berries.
You need: 1 green square (15 cm), a red 8.5 × 4 cm rectangle, red scraps for berries, scissors, a glue stick and a black pen. Medium, 17 steps, about 20 minutes.
Steps
- Ring: fold in half. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge. The middle of the fold is the centre.
- Ring: in half again. Fold the right half over onto the left half. The centre is now the corner at the top right.
- Ring: fold a slim point. Fold the right edge over onto the top edge, creasing from the centre corner.
- Ring: slimmer still. Fold the slanted edge up onto the top edge again, from the same corner. Crease hard through all the layers.
- Ring: cut the ring. Snip off the centre corner, about 4 cm along each edge. Then cut a point on the far end: two snips meeting in the middle.
- Ring: unfold. Unfold the last fold.
- Ring: unfold again. Unfold the next fold.
- Ring: and again. Unfold the left half back to the right.
- Ring: open it flat. Unfold the top half: a leafy green ring!
- Berry 1. Set the ring aside. Cut a little red circle, 1.5 cm across, for a berry.
- Berry 2. Set it aside and cut another little red circle.
- Berry 3. Set it aside and cut another little red circle.
- Bow: new sheet. Set it aside. Take the red rectangle (8.5 × 4 cm), coloured side up, long side across.
- Bow: fold in half. Fold the right half over onto the left half.
- Bow: snip the waist. Cut a slant from 1 cm above and below the middle of the fold out to the far corners. Snip the two far corners round.
- Bow: open it. Unfold it: a bow with two wide loops and a narrow middle.
- Decorate the wreath. Glue the bow at the bottom of the ring and the three berries close together near the top right.
Merry Christmas!
Draw little leaf lines round the ring and a knot on the bow. Hang it on your door.
