How to fold an origami comet
Fold an orange diamond into a long pointed fan for the tail, round a small yellow square into the glowing head, and glue the head on the tail's point.
You need: A 5 cm yellow square for the head, a 15 cm orange square for the tail, and a glue stick. Easy, 8 steps, about 6 minutes.
Steps
- Head: round it. Start with the small yellow square, yellow side up. Fold all four corners a little way behind so it's nearly round.
- Tail: new sheet. Set the head aside. Take the orange square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Tail: edges to the middle. Fold the top-left and top-right edges in to meet on the middle line, so the top becomes a long point.
- Tail: turn it over. Turn the paper over, keeping the long point at the top.
- Tail: fold the bottom behind. Fold the short bottom point behind along the widest part, so the tail is a long fan.
- Tail: round the end. Fold the two bottom corners a little way behind to round off the end of the tail.
- Glue on the head. Glue the yellow head over the tail's long point, so the point is hidden under the middle of the head.
- Send it flying. Turn the comet so its head points down to the left and the tail fans out behind it.
Whoosh!
Draw three white streaks fanning down the tail and a little white shine on the head. Stick it on a dark window or a space poster.
