How to fold an origami corgi
Fold a triangle, crease and cut four very short legs, reverse-fold a fluffy rump tuft and a neck out of the ends, crimp the fox-like head and glue on big ears.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, orange on one side, a small orange square for the ears, scissors and glue. Hard, 19 steps, about 25 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. White side up, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. The long fold at the top is the corgi's back.
- Crease the front legs. Fold the right part over on a crease from 1.3 cm right of the middle on the top fold to 2.5 cm right of it 3.8 cm down. Crease hard.
- Open it. Unfold it back into the triangle.
- Crease the hind legs. Fold the left part over on a crease from 3.8 cm left of the middle on the top fold to 4.6 cm left of it 3.8 cm down.
- Open it. Unfold it again. These creases mark the inside edges of the legs.
- Tail back. Outside-reverse-fold the left end back over the body, on an upright crease 6 cm left of the middle.
- Cut the legs. Cut the bottom point off level, 3.8 cm below the top fold. Cut up both leg creases, then across between their tops.
- Cut the tail. Cut up the tail fold, leaving 1.5 cm at the top. Trim the tail flaps to a strip 1.3 cm long, and snip the top corner of the rump round.
- Lift the tail. Outside-reverse-fold the tail out on a crease from its bottom corner, so it sticks out behind.
- Neck back. Outside-reverse-fold the right end back over the body, on an upright crease 3.8 cm right of the middle.
- Cut the neck. Cut up the neck fold, leaving 3 cm at the top. Trim the neck flaps to a strip 3 cm wide at the fold and 1.6 cm at the tip.
- Lift the neck. Outside-reverse-fold the neck up on a crease from its bottom corner, so it stands up and leans a little forward.
- Head back. Outside-reverse-fold the top 3.2 cm of the neck back and down, on a crease slanting across the neck from its back edge.
- Head forward. Outside-reverse-fold the head back out on a crease from the same corner, so the nose points forward.
- Round the paws. Snip both bottom corners off each leg, so the paws are round.
- Ears: a small square. Set the corgi aside. Take a 2.9 cm square, white side up, turned like a diamond.
- Ears: a kite. Fold the two top edges in to meet on the middle line, so the top is a sharp point.
- Ears: fold the bottom. Fold the bottom point behind, level with the side corners. Make a second ear the same.
- Glue on the ears. Glue an ear behind the top of the head on each side, points up and tipped back a little.
Woof!
Colour a white chest, muzzle and socks, and the inside of the ear. Draw an eye, a black nose and a smile.
