How to fold an origami dachshund

Fold a triangle and crease the leg lines, fold both ends back and cut out four short legs. Reverse-fold the long head up and the tail out, then glue on a dark floppy ear.

You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, reddish brown on one side, a 5 cm dark brown square for the ear, scissors and glue. Hard, 14 steps, about 20 minutes.

Steps

  1. Fold in half. White side up, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. The long fold at the top is the dog's back.
  2. Crease the front legs. Fold the right part over on an upright crease 3.5 cm right of the middle, and crease it hard. This marks the back of the front legs.
  3. Open it. Unfold it back into the triangle.
  4. Crease the hind legs. Fold the left part over on an upright crease 4.6 cm left of the middle. This marks the front of the hind legs.
  5. Open it. Unfold it again.
  6. Ends back. Outside-reverse-fold both ends back over the body, on upright creases 5.4 cm from the right point and 2.2 cm from the left point.
  7. Cut the legs. Cut the bottom point off level, 4.1 cm below the top fold. Cut up both leg creases 1 cm, and straight across between them for the belly.
  8. Cut the head and tail. Cut up both end folds, leaving 2.5 cm at the front and 0.6 cm at the back. Trim the head flaps to a 1 cm snout and the tail flaps to a thin point.
  9. Lift the head. Outside-reverse-fold the head up and forward on a crease from its bottom corner, so the long snout points ahead and a little up.
  10. Lift the tail. Outside-reverse-fold the tail out backwards on a crease from its bottom corner, so it points back and a little up.
  11. Ear: a small square. Set the dog aside. Take the small dark brown square, brown side up, turned like a diamond.
  12. Ear: narrow it. Fold the left and right corners behind, so it is a long narrow shape.
  13. Ear: round the tip. Snip the bottom point off round with three little cuts, so the ear ends soft and floppy.
  14. Glue on the ear. Glue the ear on the back of the head, pointed end up, so it hangs down over the neck. Glue a second ear on the other side.

Woof!

Draw an eye, a black nose on the tip of the snout and a mouth line. Add little toe lines on the paws.
