How to fold an origami poodle
Fold a triangle, crease the leg lines and fold both ends back. Cut out long legs, lift a tall neck, crimp the head forward, raise a pom-pom tail and round the paws.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm, pink on one side, small scissors and a ruler. Hard, 16 steps, about 25 minutes.
Steps
- Fold in half. White side up, fold the top corner down to the bottom corner. The long fold at the top is the poodle's back.
- Crease the front legs. Fold the right part over on a crease from 3 cm right of the middle on the top fold, slanting in to 1.8 cm right of it 7.35 cm down. Crease it hard.
- Open it. Unfold it back into the triangle.
- Crease the hind legs. Fold the left part over on the same slanted crease, mirrored on the left. These creases mark the inside edges of the legs.
- Open it. Unfold it again.
- Tail back. Outside-reverse-fold the left end back over the body, on an upright crease 3.15 cm left of the middle.
- Cut the legs. Cut the bottom point off level, 7.35 cm below the top fold, and the right point off square 1.6 cm in. Cut up both slanted creases to 2.7 cm below the top and across.
- Cut the tail. Cut up the tail fold, leaving 0.5 cm at the top. Trim the tail flaps to a club 3.4 cm long that widens to 1.8 cm, and snip its end round.
- Lift the tail. Outside-reverse-fold the tail up on a crease from its bottom corner, so the pom-pom stands up behind.
- Neck back. Outside-reverse-fold the right end back over the body, on an upright crease 3.15 cm right of the middle.
- Cut the neck. Cut up the neck fold, leaving 1.5 cm at the top. Trim the neck flaps to a strip 1.5 cm wide at the fold and a little narrower at the tip.
- Lift the neck. Outside-reverse-fold the neck up on a crease from its bottom corner, so it stands tall and leans a little forward.
- Head back. Outside-reverse-fold the top 2.7 cm of the neck back and down, on a crease slanting across the neck from its back edge.
- Head forward. Outside-reverse-fold the head back out on a crease from the same corner, so the snout points forward and a little down.
- Round the paws. Snip both bottom corners off each leg, so the paws are round. Snip the top back corner of the head round too.
- Pom-poms. Fold the bottom 1.1 cm of every leg up outside, and the round end of the tail down outside, so white pom-poms show on both sides.
Ta-da!
Draw an eye, a black nose and a long curly ear hanging down the neck. Add a few curls on the fluffy top of the head.
