How to fold an origami flower pot
A blintzed square with a narrow rim folded behind each edge and a small floor creased in the middle. The tall walls lean out as they rise, just like a clay plant pot.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm or larger, terracotta or orange. Medium, 8 steps, about 10 minutes.
Steps
- Crease the middle. Fold the left corner onto the right corner, crease, then unfold.
- Crease the other way. Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner, crease, then unfold. The creases cross at the centre.
- Corners to the centre. Fold all four corners in so their tips meet at the centre. You now have a smaller square.
- Rim at top and bottom. Fold a thin band, about 7 mm, behind along the top edge and along the bottom edge.
- Rim at the sides. Fold the same thin band behind along the left and right edges. The rim goes all the way round.
- Crease the side walls. Fold the left edge over to about 1.5 cm past the middle, crease well, then unfold. Do the same with the right edge.
- Crease the end walls. Do the same with the top and bottom edges. The creases make a small square floor in the middle.
- Raise the walls. Lift the four walls, letting them lean out a little at the top. Push each corner in so it folds flat inside, and pinch the edges sharp.
A pot for your garden!
Stand a folded tulip or a few paper leaves in it, or use it for pencils. A green one makes a handy cactus pot.
