How to fold an origami pyramid
Crease a square into sixteen slices and fold the corners behind. Push the centre up and pinch each diagonal inward: the edge middles become four feet and the point rises high.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm or larger, sandy yellow. Medium, 10 steps, about 12 minutes.
Steps
- Crease a diagonal. Fold the top-left corner onto the bottom-right corner, crease firmly, then unfold.
- And the other one. Fold the top-right corner onto the bottom-left corner, crease firmly, then unfold.
- Crease the middle. Fold the left edge onto the right edge, crease, then unfold.
- Crease the middle again. Fold the top edge onto the bottom edge, crease, then unfold. Eight creases now meet at the centre.
- Halve the slices. Fold through the centre so the right half of the middle crease lies on the diagonal crease below it. Crease, then unfold.
- Halve the slices, 2. Do the same with the next pair of creases going round: fold one onto its neighbour through the centre, crease, then unfold.
- Halve the slices, 3. Do the same with the next pair of creases going round: fold one onto its neighbour through the centre, crease, then unfold.
- Halve the slices, 4. Do the same with the next pair of creases going round: fold one onto its neighbour through the centre, crease, then unfold.
- Corners behind. Fold each corner behind on a line from 6 cm along one edge to 6 cm along the next. The slanted creases end right on the new edges.
- Pinch up the pyramid. Push the centre up from below. Pinch each diagonal inward so a flap tucks inside between the slanted creases. It stands on the four edge middles.
A pyramid on your desk!
Fold a few in different sizes and stand them in a row on a sandy-coloured sheet, like the pyramids of Egypt.
