How to fold an origami horseshoe magnet
Tuck the ends of a long strip behind for white tips, fold it in half twice into a thick bar, then turn both ends up with neat 45-degree folds into a horseshoe magnet.
You need: 1 red strip, 30 x 10.5 cm (half an A4 sheet cut lengthwise). Medium, 5 steps, about 8 minutes.
Steps
- Tips behind. White side up, fold both short ends behind about 2 cm. These will be the white pole tips.
- Fold in half. Fold the top edge down onto the bottom edge. Red shows on both sides now.
- In half again. Fold the bottom edge up onto the top edge: a thick red bar with white ends.
- Turn the ends up. Fold each end straight up with a 45-degree fold, a bar's width in from the middle part, so the two arms stand up side by side.
- Round the bottom. Fold the two outer bottom corners behind a little to round the bend of the U.
It sticks!
Your horseshoe magnet is ready to pick up paper clips. Draw a few little zap lines by the white tips if you like.
